Antalya maintains its global lead in Blue Flag beaches
Antalya, southern Turkey, one of the most important tourism centers in the world, has maintained its first place in the number of Blue Flag beaches worldwide, after it succeeded in raising this number to 213 beaches.
The International Blue Flag Beaches Association announced that the Blue Flag will be awarded this year to 519 beaches in Turkey, including 213 in Antalya .
Turkey came in third place in the world in the number of beaches awarded the Blue Flag with 519 beaches, after Spain with 614 and Greece with 545 beaches.
The Blue Flag is an environmental label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) to beaches and ports that meet certain criteria such as beach cleanliness, water purity, environmental education and safety.
Antalya maintained its lead among cities in Turkey and around the world, increasing the number of its Blue Flag beaches from 202 last year to 213. It was followed in the rankings in Turkey by Mugla (southwest) with 102 beaches, Izmir (west) with 49 beaches, and Aydın (west) with 30 beaches.
